"Better U.S. Stack 1.1" (Shareware $1.00; NOT a demo) is designed to be a simple, yet fun/educational method of learning to recognize the states of the U.S. from their shapes and relative positions. Clicking on a state causes the name and "popular name" of that state to appear in a field above the map (i.e. "Kentucky; The Bluegrass State"). The Mac will also speak the name of the state. (...this feature can be turned on/off with a click of a button).
While ideal for preschoolers and slightly older children, it can be easily configured for teenagers or adults. By pressing a modifier key (OPTION key) as you click a state, you will be taken to a "State Facts" card providing information concerning the: Popular Name, Capital, State Abbreviations, Bird, Flower, Tree, Song, Population, Rank in Population, Persons per Sq. Mile and Kilometer, Area in Sq. Miles and Kilometers, Rank in Area, When Admitted to the Union, Order of Admission, and Numbers of Members of Congress and Senate. (The state will also be highlighted on a smaller map on the "State Facts" card).
Buttons can be configured to be "hidden" to keep the "Map Card" simple for younger users, and older users can activate a "State Facts" button that will eliminate the need to use the modifier key.
Version 1.1 corrects some of the word-wrap (and other problems) associated with conversion to HyperCard 2.0
